XY Family Tree uses the Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework. Installation of the framework is a once-only operation and is very straightforward. You can download the framework from Microsoft. The Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework is suitable for all modern Microsoft platforms: Windows 98; Windows ME; Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP.

Windows Vista users will find that the framework is already on their system and can skip that download.

Once you have installed the Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework (or you already use Windows Vista) you can download XY Family Tree. Save the setup file on your computer and double-click it to start the installation. If you are upgrading to a newer version of XY Family Tree program don't worry, your data files will not be overwritten. You can safely install a newer version over an existing version. Free XY Family Tree is a small download, less than 1MB, and installs very quickly.

XY Family Tree software is designed to make it easy to visualise your family tree. It is not aimed at connecting to major genealogy databases, to census data or to historical records, but simply, it's a tool for displaying your family tree on your computer and on the Internet.
